WORLD FOOD DAY – AUSTRALIA AND WFP ENHANCING FOOD SECURITY IN BANGLADESH

DHAKA, Oct. 15 (NsNewsWire) — World Food Day is celebrated annually and this year, the United Nations
is calling for increased action to achieve Zero Hunger by 2030.
The Australian Government is committed to enhancing food security
globally, including in Bangladesh. In partnership with the World Food
Programme, Australian funding is helping to address the root causes of
food insecurity and alleviate the impact of undernutrition.
Australian support is helping vulnerable communities in Cox’s Bazar,
the Chittagong Hill Tracts, and disaster-stricken areas across the
country. This work includes distributing emergency assistance to over
900,000 Rohingya people living in Cox’s Bazar, providing additional
nutrition to Bangladeshi children attending school, and supporting
20,000 women entrepreneurs to develop new businesses and achieve
economic empowerment.
Australian High Commissioner, Ms Julia Niblett said, ‘it’s incredible to
see the work being done to end hunger and ensure access by all people
to safe, sufficient and nutritious food. Food security is a fundamental
right and Australia remains committed to working with Bangladesh and
our partners to help build a zero hunger world’.
