Vice-President Hamid Ansari upset over drafting error in Indo-Bangladesh land boundary Bill
NEW DELHI: An upset Vice-PresidentHamid Ansari. Red faces in government. Questions on parliamentary ‘haste’ that result in less-than-careful reading of text of Bills. And MPs who passed key legislations having to go through the process all over again. All this because of silly errors in drafting legislation.
Ansari, said senior officials familiar with the matter, expressed his displeasure at a meeting on Friday when it came to be known that the constitutional amendment Bill on the Indo-Bangladesh land boundary agreement that was passed this week had a drafting error: This was the 100th constitutional amendment that Parliament had passed. When introduced as a Bill it was numbered 119th constitutional amendment because that list includes proposed legislation. Once passed, the number had to change to 100, reports The EEconomic Times.
