UN and government officials discuss China’s rural development strategy post-2015
Beijing, May 28 (NsNewsWire) — The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the government of the People’s Republic of China meet Friday to review the country’s opportunities for agricultural and rural development and define the main elements of the IFAD-China partnership until 2020.
The discussion will lay the foundation for an inclusive and sustainable strategy that will improve the lives of smallholder farmers in remote locations throughout the country.
Participants include John McIntire, Associate Vice-President, IFAD, Zheng Quan, Deputy Director General, Department of International and Financial Cooperation, Ministry of Finance, and other high-level officials from the Ministry of Finance, the National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Agriculture. Attendees also include development partners and representatives from the provincial governments, financing institutions, academia and research centres.
“ As the world looks to finance a post-2015 agenda, we should also be looking to what emerging economies such as China can share in terms of knowledge and experience,” McIntire said. ”IFAD looks forward to continuing our strategic partnership with the country by adding our complementary experience and know-how and applying practical solutions on the ground.”
