Two Bangladeshi star cricketers set to jump into politics
DHAKA, May 30 (Xinhua) — Two Bangladeshi star cricketers are all set to jump into politics and run in the general elections slated for early 2019.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ruling Bangladesh Awami League party leader AHM Mustafa Kamal, also planning minister, made the announcement in Dhaka on Monday, saying Mashrafe Mortaza and Shakib Al Hasan will join politics and run for parliamentary elections.
But Kamal, a former president of Bangladesh Cricket Board, did not make it clear which party they would be contesting from.
Neither Mashrafe nor Shakib was available immediately for comments.
Bangladesh people madly love cricket and perhaps have the most passionate set of fans.
As far as the popularity meter is concerned, both cricketers are considered above everyone else in the Bangladesh cricket history. Enditem
