STATEMENT FROM THE U.S. EMBASSY DHAKA

DHAKA, Nov. 6 (US embassy Press Release)  –” We are deeply concerned by recent attacks on Hindus in Pabna district and in Lalmonirhat. We call on all those involved in these incidents to desist from abusing the rights of minorities, and ask all parties to ensure they are stopped immediately and the perpetrators are held accountable. We ask the Government of Bangladesh to act authoritatively against those who incited and committed this violence and protect the rights of minorities.

We are also remain deeply concerned by the deaths, injuries, and ongoing violence associated with hartals. While engaging in peaceful protest is a fundamental democratic right, we firmly believe violence is never the answer. We call on all parties to ensure that their protests are peaceful and we look to the Government of Bangladesh to ensure the safety of all its citizens and encourage all Bangladeshis to peacefully express their views.”
