South African Mission in New Delhi to be accredited to Bangladesh
DHAKA, March 27 (NsNewsWire) — The South African High Commissioner in Sri Lanka Robina P. Marks, concurrently accredited to Bangladesh, made a farewell call to Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen at the latter’s office on Monday. During the call, she informed that from 1 April 2019, South Africa will carry out its diplomatic relations with Bangladesh from its Mission in New Delhi.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Dr. A K Abdul Momen, expressed satisfaction at the existing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and South Africa and highlighted the immense potential to further strengthen bilateral ties, especially in trade and investment. Dr. Momen underscored the massive investment opportunities that exist in Bangladesh in different sectors including Ready Made Garments, Pharmaceuticals, Fisheries, Leather products, Tourism etc. He highlighted that under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh is fast moving towards becoming a developed country by 2041 through establishment of a just and inclusive society. Foreign Minister suggested that a South African business delegation could visit Bangladesh to explore the trade and investment opportunities.
South African High Commissioner described Bangladesh-South Africa relationship as warm, ancient and pragmatic. Marks appreciated the unprecedented and historic humanitarian gesture shown by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for providing shelter to more than one million Rohingyas who have been forcibly displaced from their homeland in Myanmar. She also informed that South Africa is considering the possibility of opening a Consulate in Dhaka in near future.
Both sides agreed to sustain cooperation in different multilateral platforms. Both sides also discussed about the forthcoming Foreign Office Consultation (FOC) scheduled to be held in May 2019. Press release
