Shanghai Shenhua-based Cahill fuels Australia’ s world cup qualifying

CANBERRA, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) — Tim Cahill scored his 42nd international goal as Australia, which is scheduled to play Bangladesh next Tuesday, turned on the sparkle to fuel their World Cup qualifying hopes with a 3-0 win over Kyrgyzstan in Canberra on Thursday.
Despite having 74 percent possession in the first half, Australia only took the lead in the 40th minute on Jedinak’s goal. Cahill, the Shanghai Shenhua-based player, with his 42nd international goal, put the home side ahead 2-0 before an Ildar Amirov own-goal in the 69th minute.
The win moved Australia into first place in Group B, a point ahead of Jordan, after five matches.
“We had a game plan and the boys stuck to it and maybe it could have been a little bit more at the end, but we take the victory and the three points most importantly,” Jedinak said.
“Our plan was to keep them under pressure, stay on them, don’t sit back, stay on the front foot and we did that really, almost suffocated them.”
Talisman Cahill went close early and struck the woodwork with a volley in the 15th minute.
Australia is scheduled to play Bangladesh next Tuesday in Dhaka.  Enditem
