Sajal, Samir new TRNB president, secretary
DHAKA, March 30 (NsNewsWire) —Sajal Zahid Islam, senior reporter of The Daily Star, and Samir Kumar Dey, senior correspondent of the daily Ittefaq, were elected president and general secretary respectively of Telecom Reporters’ Network of Bangladesh or TRNB on Friday for the 2018-19 term (April 2018-March 2019).
The other office-bearers include Treasurer Md. Shamim Jahangir of the daily Sun, Organizing Secretary Shahid Bappy of daily amadershomoy and three Members — Muzib Masud of Daily Jugantor, Feroz Manna of the Daily Janakantha and Ashraful Islam of daily Prothom Alo.
The new committee members were elected during the TRNB’s Annual General Meeting or AGM, which was held on Friday at a city hotel.
Chairman to the election committee, Saiful Islam, Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) president, announced the polls results.
Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo, general secretary of DRU, and Uttam Chakravarty, a senior journalist, performed as election commissioners.
TRNB founding members Abdullah Mamun, Kazi Hafiz, Naim-Ul-Karim, Shahed Siddique, SM Robin and Tareque Moretaza, among others, were present at the AGM.
Prior to the elections, in his address, the outgoing President Rashed Mehedi, special correspondent of Samakal, reported on the TRNB related activities with a highlight on flagship events, stakeholder relations and way forward.
Dey, however, became new general secretary replacing Shamim Ahmed of bdnews24.com.
TRNB is a professional body of journalists who are focused on entire gamut of activities in the telecommunications and information technology sectors in Bangladesh and beyond.
