Robi’s mobile application platform, BDAPPS hosts Google I/O 2018 in Bangladesh

DHAKA, May 10 (NsNewsWire) — BDAPPS, an open for all mobile application store of Robi Axiata Limited has hosted the much awaited Google Developer Conference, Google I/O 2018 event in Bangladesh on the 8th and 9th of May, in collaboration with Google Developer Group (GDG) Dhaka and Lets Learn Coding (LLC). Robi is the first telecom operator to have hosted this prestigious event in Bangladesh.

The event was streamed live from Google’s global headquarter at Mountain View, California. In total, around 1,500 professionals and tech enthusiasts registered for the event in Bangladesh.

Kicking-off the event, Robi’s Vice President, IOT and Product Innovation, Mr. Showkat Kader Chowdhury said: “Robi is extremely excited to host and be part of this global event and will continue to support the young developers to grow their businesses not only in Bangladesh, but also in other countries where Axiata operates.”

He also mentioned that engagements from young developers will be key to bring out innovative solutions for our mobile subscribers. Among others, Mr. Tahmid Hassan Chowdhury, Project Coordinator, Department of ICT, ICT Division, Mr. Amit Kumar Dey, Manager, Google Developers Group (GDG)-Dhaka and Muhammad Sumon Molla Selim, CEO of Lets Learn Coding (LLC) were also present in the event.

As predicted, Google I/O lived up to the expectations of tech enthusiasts and professionals the world over. Particularly, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) based phone calls to make restaurant and hair salon bookings truly captured the imagination of observers. The audience at Robi Corporate Office was literally in awe of the power of Google’s AI. Video clip of Google CEO, Sundar Pichai demonstrating this unique feature is being widely shared in Facebook.

This event brought the mobile apps developer community in Bangladesh together to witness this technological spectacle. It is expected that the enthusiasm will be reverberating among more than 50,000 android and application developers of Bangladesh.

BDAPPS is the largest developer eco-system for Bangladeshi developers and mobile subscribers. Through this platform more than 2,000 developers are serving their applications for mobile customers in Bangladesh at the moment. Since inception back in 2015, more than 2,700 applications are being hosted on the platform, serving more than 12 lakh subscribers per month.

The revenue sharing model used in the platform has helped a large number of talented young developers to pursue careers in self-employment. BDAPPS, thereby, is a key exponent for the implementation of our Government’s Digital Bangladesh vision.
