Renowned cardiologist Dr. M Akhteruzzaman passed away

GetAttachmentThumbnailDhaka, July 19 (NsNewsWire) — Renowned cardiologist and former director of National Institute of Cardiovascular Disease (NICBD) Professor Dr. M Akhteruzzaman passed away Tuesday at Metropolitan Medical Center (MMC). He was 74.

He left behind his wife, 3 daughters, grandchildren and a host of relatives to mourn his death.

His namaz-e-janaza will be held at Baitul Ma’mur mosque after Asr prayers. He will be buried at Banani graveyard.

Dr M A Zaman was born in an aristocratic Muslim family in Manikganj on February 21 in 1942. He stood first in final MBBS examination in 1964. He obtained his MRCP degree in first attempt from Royal College of Physicians of UK. He served as assistant Surgeon in Dhaka Medical College from 1965-1970.

He was director and professor of Cardiology in National Institute of Cardiovascular Disease, principal of Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College and principal and professor of Cardiology in Bangladesh Medical College. He is the life member of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA), National Heart Foundation and Bangladesh Cardiac Society. He received Atish Dipankar scholar award in 2003 and Deshbandhu C.R Das Gold Medal award in 2004 for outstanding contribution in Medical Science. He has about 35 publications in different journals home and abroad.
