Power supplies restored after Bangladesh ‘national grid tripped’

DHAKA, Nov. 2 (NsNewsWire) — Power supplies have been restored across Bangladesh after Saturday’s unprecedented breakdown of the national grid.
A senior official of the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh told NsNewsWire on Sunday morning that power supplies have already been restored to all over Bangladesh.
Nearly nine hours after the grid failure, authorities managed to fix the outage for some areas in Dhaka and other cities and towns at about 8:00 p.m. local time on Saturday night.
Masud Alberuni, a senior power ministry official, had told journalists that “the national grid tripped” close to midday.
The national grid reportedly failed after the Bangladesh- India power interconnection line developed technical glitches at about 11:30 a.m. local time and caused the countrywide disaster on Saturday.
Bangladesh began importing power from India late last year through a transmission line stretching from India’s eastern state of West Bengal to south-western Bangladesh.
State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid Bipu told journalists that a committee has been formed to investigate the power failure across the country.
He said the committee has been asked to submit a report in three days after scrutinizing the entire incident.
