Parramatta to work together with Invictus Games Sydney 2018
The City of Parramatta and Invictus Games Sydney 2018 will work together to spread the word on the healing power of sport in the community, reports Invictus Games news room.
Lord Mayor Cr Andrew Wilson said the partnership was a fantastic opportunity for the city from a sporting perspective and would put Parramatta firmly on the global stage.
“Working together with Invictus Games Sydney 2018 will deliver outstanding opportunities to promote the benefits of sport for physical and mental wellbeing to the Parramatta community” said Cr Wilson.
“We are very excited to be working closely with a cause that puts support for the defence community on the world stage. Each of the 500 competitors from the 18 nations participating in the Games has a story of resilience, courage and spirit. Their ability to overcome adversity, and the crucial support provided by their family and friends, is something we can all draw inspiration from.
“Council is also proud to demonstrate its commitment to disability inclusion by supporting this wonderful event which aligns with the principles laid out in Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan.”
The City of Parramatta will deliver a local marketing and promotional campaign designed to increase local awareness of the Games and to drive community support, through the attendance at Invictus Games Sydney 2018 competitive events.
Support to date includes an educational workshop held for the community during the Easter school holidays, promotion at existing City of Parramatta events and ‘dressing the city’ with street banners during the Games itself in October.
City of Parramatta residents and ratepayers were also provided with the opportunity to access early bird tickets.
“With tickets now on sale and selling out fast, I encourage everyone to get in quick and grab tickets to this once in a lifetime event,” the Lord Mayor said.
Invictus Games Sydney 2018 CEO Patrick Kidd OBE has welcomed the support of City of Parramatta.
“Invictus Games Sydney 2018 provides a moment in time for us all to join together and actively demonstrate our support for our veterans and service personnel”, said Mr Kidd.
“It is wonderful that the community at the heart of these Games is embracing this opportunity and we are grateful to have the City of Parramatta join us on our journey to the Games in October this year.”
