New CEO to join Robi in 2014
DHAKA, Nov. 3 (Robi Press Release) — Robi Axiata Limited has announced that a new Chief Executive Officer will join the company in January 2014.
Supun Weerasinghe has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Robi Axiata with effect from 1 January 2014. Supun will replace out-going Robi CEO Michael Kuehner, who has decided to retire from full time corporate life. Michael will continue to be a member of the Board of Directors of Robi Axiata after he steps down as CEO.
Lauding Michael’s leadership over the last 4 years, Axiata Berhad President and Group CEO Dato’ Sri Jamaludin Ibrahim said that “I would like to thank Michael for his tremendous contributions in building the business. Under Michael’s stewardship Robi made a dramatic turnaround in financial performance in 2012, outperforming all their targets”.
Supun Weerasinghe has been serving as the Axiata Group Chief Strategy Officer since Feb 2013. He also functions as the Head of Network Transformation Strategic Business Unit under which he provides leadership to Group Technology, Carrier Collaboration and Axiata Intelligence Unit (previously Axiata Management Services).

Prior to Axiata Group, Supun was the Group Chief Operating Officer (GCOO), of Dialog Axiata Plc, (Dialog) Sri Lanka’s mobile market leader. He was also the COO and then the CEO of Dialog Mobile for several years. He has played a pivotal role in making Dialog, the leading quad play Telco service provider in Sri Lanka.
Supun is a fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), UK, and holds a B.Sc. in Accountancy and Financial Management from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka. He also has a MBA from the University of Western Sydney, Australia and is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School. Enditem
