NBR holds pre-budget meeting with handset importers’ association
DHAKA, April 19 (NsNewsWire) –Leaders of Bangladesh Mobile Phone Importers Association (BMPIA) met the Chairman of National Board of Revenue (NBR) in a pre-budget discussion on 18th April at the latter’s office. BMPIA gave a couple of concrete proposals for developing the mobile handset industry in Bangladesh.
Mr. RuhulAlam Al Mahbub, President of BMPIA, thanked the honorable Prime Minister through NBR Chairman to allow and encourage mobile manufacturing in Bangladesh. Because of her encouragement, at least 7 national and international mobile handset brands including World no. 1 brand Samsung are going to manufacture mobile phone in Bangladesh. Mr. Mahbub requested NBR to reduce tax from 10% to 1% on all raw materials of mobile handset at least for first 2 years to let the mobile manufacturing industry flourish in Bangladesh which will assist to materialize the dream of Digital Bangladesh and create good number of employment.
Mr. Mahbub brought to NBR Chairman’s attention that a significant part of local market is inundated with illegally imported mobile handset thus depriving government of huge revenue.Not only that, these mobile handsets also create significant security threat to the country and people. He requested NBR to arrange necessary measures along with BTRC so that mobile operators stop activating such mobile handsets in their networks.
NBR Chairman expressed his satisfaction learning that world leading brands are manufacturing mobile handsets in Bangladesh. He assured BMPIA leaders of necessary support to develop the mobile manufacturing industry. He also assured that he will take necessary measures to curb illegal handset proliferation. Press Release
