India officially lodges strong protest with Pakistan over bail to Mumbai terror attacks accused
NEW DELHI, Dec. 20 (NsNewsWire) — India on Friday said that it had officially lodged a strong protest withPakistan for the grant of bail by an anti-terror court there to banned militant outfit Lashkar-e-Toiba’s (LeT) commander and 2008 Mumbai attacks accused Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi.
“India conveys to Pakistan through diplomatic channels strong concerns of gov’t and sentiments of our people on move to grant bail to Lakhvi,” Indian External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted, reports Xinhua.
Meanwhile, some Indian TV channels reported that though Lakhvi has been granted bail, he is still under the detention of the Pakistani authorities.
India’s protest came a day after Lakhvi was granted bail by an anti-terror court in Pakistan, just two days after Taliban terrorists massacred more than 130 children in a Peshawar school.
The Ministry of External Affairs said Thursday that it “cannot accept that Lakhvi has been granted bail”.
“The grant of bail to Lakhvi will serve as reassurance to the terrorist to hatch more conspiracies,” it added.
Over 170 people were killed in the Mumbai terror attacks carried out by Pakistani militants in November 2008. Lakhvi and LeT founder Hafiz Saeed were accused of masterminding the massacre.
