Hearing in BNP chief’s graft case appeal early next month
DHAKA, Oct. 26 (NsNewsWire) — A fresh date has been fixed for hearing the appeal against a High Court verdict that had rejected a petition of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chief challenging charge framing order against her and others in a graft case.
The five-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Md Muzammel Hossain Sunday fixed the fresh hearing date on Nov. 6 in response to a petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case in July 2008, saying that BNP Chief Khaleda Zia and five others including her elder son Tarique Rahman had embezzled over 20 million taka (253,164 U.S. dollars) from an orphanage trust during her 2001-2006 term as prime minister.
