GP starts distributing relief worth BDT 10 crore through Bangladesh Red Crescent Society

DHAKA, Aug. 28 (NsNewsWire) — Grameenphone Ltd. has started a relief operation worth BDT 10 crore for the victims of the ongoing %ood across the country. The funds will go towards the preparation of relief packs for distribution through our disaster response partner Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS).

Grameenphone started to distribute reliefs in most a+ected 10 districts from August 23 with help of Bangladesh Red Crescent Society. GP plans to provide food to over 53,000 families and medical treatment to 12,000 people in next few weeks. Initially, the company has distributed relief packs comprising of foods and other essentials among 5,100 families in di+erent districts. The packs have each been prepared with provisions to feed a 4-member family for 15 days.

Water purifying units have already been deployed, supporting over 5,000 families with 44,345-liter clean drinking water. In addition, medical teams have also started work in the hardest hit %ood-a+ected areas. Grameenphone employees have also raised funds, which will be added to the money donated by the company, for use in the relief e+ort. GP employees in different regions are also extending their support to Bangladesh Red Crescent Society during the relief distribution.

Grameenphone is committed to stand beside the people of our country who are
facing severe distress due to the %ood. The company as part of its social
responsibility has also extended support during the %oods in Sylhet region, Cyclone
Mora and landslides in Chittagong earlier in the year.
