Gold Coast Commonwealth Games: Abdullah Hel Baki wins first medal for Bangladesh
GOLD COAST, April 8 (NsNewsWire) — Shooter Abdullah Hel Baki has won Bangladesh its first medal in the men’s 10m air rifle at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 by taking silver in the 10m Air Rifle final.
Australian Dane Sampson won gold with a Commonwealth Games record of 245.0 at Belmont Shooting Centre on Sunday.
Despite his record-breaking performance, Sampson wasn’t entirely confident after a shaky final shot.
“I didn’t know if it would be good enough. It wasn’t a good shot, and I just had to wait,” he said.
“This would be my greatest achievement, it’s very special.
“My dad is president of the Target Rifle Association and chief range officer here at Belmont. I know this place really well as I pretty much grew up here. My mum walked around Belmont when she was pregnant with me. My dad, Rodney, is here but I think he’s gone somewhere to cry.”
Abdulla Hel Baki of Bangladesh took silver, with Ravi Kumar from India in the bronze medal position.
