Experts promise to work with AIIB to promote sustainable infrastructure in Bangladesh
DHAKA, June 30 (NsNewsWire) — Leading green economy experts in a meeting with Bangladesh’s central bank governor have expressed their keenness to work with the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) to promote sustainable infrastructure in Bangladesh, reports Xinhua.
The meeting between the Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Atiur Rahman and Hans-Peter Egler and Daniel Wiener of ECOS (ecology, economy and social responsibility), a subsidiary of Global Infrastructure Basel (GIB) Foundation based on Basel, was held on the sideline of an event during the annual general meeting of Bank for International Settlements (BIS) in Switzerland on Sunday, AFM Asaduzzaman, senior spokesman of BB, told Xinhua here on Monday.
The experts discussed with the governor and his team about the possibility of collaborating on raising green fund for sustainable infrastructure focusing on textile and leather sectors, Asaduzzaman said in a statement.
He said they brought with them huge expertise on raising standards of green infrastructure, efficient production processes and proper waste management.
He said they promised to link Bangladesh Bank and other entities of Bangladesh with the global green platforms.
“The meeting concluded with a promise by the experts to work with Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for promoting sustainable infrastructure in Bangladesh,” said the statement.
It noted that Bangladesh is a founding member of the AIIB, a China-initiated multilateral bank that Monday took a key step forward, with the signing of an agreement that outlines the framework and management structure for the institution.
Representatives of the 57 prospective founding countries of the AIIB gathered in Beijing for the signing ceremony. Enditem
