EMERGENCY RELIEF SUPPORT FROM BANGLADESH TO FLOOD AND LANDSLIDE AFFECTED OF SRI LANKA

DHAKA, May 29 (NsNewsWire) — As a quick response to the need of flood and landslide affected people of Sri Lanka with the direction of Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh Government has decided to send emergency humanitarian support to Sri Lanka.

In view of that a 19 members relief support team organized by Bangladesh Armed Forces Division has left Dhaka for Colombo today, Friday (27-5-2016) by C-130 transport aircraft of Bangladesh Air Force.

The team has carried 9 ton relief support consignment which includes water purification set, medicine, tent, electricity generator etc.

Her Excellency, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Bangladesh Yasoja Gunasekera was present during departure of the aircraft and she expressed her gratitude and thanked to Bangladesh Government for this emergency relief support. Principal Staff Officer of Armed Forces Division Lieutenant General Md Mahfuzur Rahman and other Senior Officers of Bangladesh Armed Forces were also present at the venue.
Director General of Operation and Plan Directorate of AFD Brigadier General Azazul Bar Chowdhury briefed media on the occasion.
Since 14 May 2016, Sri Lanka has experienced continuous heavy rainfall, flood and landslide in the central hilly region. Many people have lost their lives and properties.
Over the relief consignment to Sri Lankan authority the team would return to Dhaka on 28 May 2016.
In consultation with Sri Lankan Government and considering the priority of requirement of relief items more relief
support consignment would be sent shortly to Sri Lanka by C-130 transport aircraft of Bangladesh Air
