DCCI expresses deep concern over vandalism in RMG factories
DHAKA, Nov. 20 (DCCI Press Release) — Recently garments industry of Bangladesh is facing a setback due to ongoing unrest and unexpected attack on different established factories in Savar, Tongi, Ashulia and Gazipur area. NEO Zipper Company Ltd. situated in Tongi, Gazipur a company with foreign investment is also attacked today like many other factories earlier.
Dhaka Chamber of Commerce & Industry (DCCI) the largest trade body in the country expresses its deep concern over the current spell of labour unrest and violence that has been taking a heavy toll on the country’s prime export earning apparel industry. DCCI thinks that if this kind of violence is not stopped right now, it will affect the whole industry which will cause a serious damage to our economy. DCCI feels that if this violence goes on, orders from international buyers may shift to alternative destinations. We may also lose foreign direct investment.
If our RMG industry falls in peril, it will bring misery to both factory owners as well as workers. So it is the duty of all to save this big industry for the sake country’s greater interest. Besides, if such unrest prevails in the industrial sector, it will hamper the confidence level of entrepreneurs. DCCI feels that any dispute should be settled by mutual discussion.
DCCI therefore, strongly calls upon the concerned to come forward for the early settlement of this crisis. DCCI hence, seeks cooperation from all to save our garments industry. Besides, DCCI demands for taking stern legal action against the people who are engaged in vandalism.
