Commemoration of International Yoga Day in Bangladesh on 21 June, 2015

DHAKA, June 15 (NsNewsWire) — The Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in collaboration with the United Nations System in Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Yoga Association will be commemorating the first International Yoga Day on 21 June, 2015 at the National Museum Main Auditorium at 5 pm.

The Chief Guest on the occasion will be H.E. Mr. Gowher Rizvi, the International Relations Advisor to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Pankaj Saran and the UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative, H.E. Mr. Robert D. Watkins will be Special Guests on the occasion.

As part of the commemoration event, Mr. Mohamed Harun, President of the Bangladesh Yoga Association will deliver a lecture on Yoga. A short documentary on Yoga will be screened followed by a live demonstration of various Yoga asanas by students of Yoga from the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre and the Bangladesh Yoga Association.

This year will mark the first ever celebration of the International Day of Yoga. The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi called for the adoption of 21 June as the International Day of Yoga during his address to the UN General Assembly on September 27, 2014. The resolution for the adoption of 21 June as International Day of Yoga was co-sponsored by 177 countries in the United Nations and adopted unanimously on 11 December 2014.

In the run up to the International Day of Yoga, the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre has organized over the last two months a series of lectures and seminars on Yoga across the country. A photography exhibition on Yoga was inaugurated at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre on 13 June, 2015. Entry to the National Museum event at 5pm on June 21, 2015 is free. All yoga enthusiasts, practitioners and students are cordially invited.
