Clashes with Israeli soldiers kill Palestinian young man in West Bank : Medics

RAMALLAH, May 12 (Xinhua) — A 20-year-old Palestinian was killed and several others injured on Friday afternoon in clashes with Israeli soldiers near the West Bank city of Ramallah, medical sources said.

The Palestinian Health Ministry in the West Bank said in an emailed press statement that a 20-year-old young Palestinian man was killed by an Israeli soldier’s gunfire.

Eyewitnesses said that Israeli soldiers opened fire at dozens of Palestinian stones throwers in the village of al-Nabi Salleh northwest of Ramallah, adding that the young man was shot in his chest and dies shortly after he was taken to hospital.

Every Friday, the Palestinians organize demonstrations against the Israeli security measures, the settlement, the wall and in solidarity with Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails who have been going on a hunger strike for 26 days.

The eyewitnesses said that the soldiers fired tear gas canisters, rubber bullets and live ammunition to disperse the demonstrators. Dozens inhaled the tear gas, where similar protests and clashes broke out in other areas in the West Bank.

Since October 2015, the Palestinians and Israelis have been going through a wave of violence which left 364 Palestinians and 47 Israelis dead, according to official figures.
