DHAKA, Dec. 25 (NsNewsWire) — Christians in Bangladesh and elsewhere in the world are celebrating Christmas with religious fervour and enthusiasm to mark the birthday of Jesus Christ.

In light of the country’s worsening political situation, law enforcement agencies have made elaborate security arrangements with heavy deployment in and around churches to avoid any untoward incident.
Christmas, the biggest religious festival of the Christians across the world, is also a celebration of rebirth, new beginning, forgiveness and peace. For the believers, it is an occasion to renew relationship with God and humans.
According to Christian belief, Virgin Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ, the Son of God, in a stable in the city of Bethlehem on this day.
The day is a public holiday in Bangladesh as in many other countries.
President Abdul Hamid , Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Opposition Leader Khaleda Zia greeted Christians in the country in separate messages.
Marking the carnival, special services and functions will be arranged at churches across the country as both local organisations and international groups, foreign missions and the U.N. will also be hosting ceremonies.
Events like carol singing, tableaus, dinners, discount sale at community centres and fellowship programmes have already started.
Bakeries were overburdened with high demand of cakes and confectionaries which are essentials for celebrations besides the gifts for the family and friends. Dhaka’s prominent hotels have already showcased Christmas trees in their lobbies.
Churches and adjoining areas have already been decked out with colourful tiny blinking lights. Illuminated Christmas trees have been placed with a star standing right on top. Santa Claus will hand out Christmas gifts to the children.
