On behalf of Chinese Embassy, he said “I wish to express our warmest welcome and heartfelt thanks for your support to the friendship between China and Bangladesh.”

“Please also allow me to extend greetings to the all Chinese nationals working or studying in Bangladesh.”

As you know, on Sept. 3,  Chinese ambassador said the Chinese people, together with people all around the world, commemorated the 70th anniversary of victory of the World Anti-Fascist War.

After the great national sacrifice of millions of lives, the People’s Republic of China emerged from the ruins of war and embarked on the great journey of economic prosperity and national rejuvenation, he said.

Over 66 years, he said China has made remarkable progress on all fronts.

When China started its reform and opening to the outside world in 1978, the per capita GDP was only US 224 dollars, ranking number 2 in the world from bottom, he said and added today the per capita GDP rose to US 7500 dollars, increased by 34 times.

Ma Mingqiang said China is now the second largest economy, the biggest trade partner for more than 120 countries in the world.

China brought 439 million of its citizen out of poverty, he said and added China’s high-speed railway runs over more than 16,000 kilometers, making up more than sixty percent of the world’s total.

“Though facing downward pressure, the Chinese economy remains resilient and full of potential and the ongoing structural reform is constantly delivering benefits. We are focusing more on the quality and efficiency of economic performance and pursuing an innovation-driven strategy to fully unleash the potential of economic growth.”

He said, “China owes much of its progress in development over the past decades to international cooperation; we thus feel duty-bound to make contributions to international development endeavors. This is why China has come up with such initiatives as the Belt and Road and the AIIB.”

“During the UN summit, My President H.E. Xi Jinping announced that China will set up a South-South cooperation fund with initial contribution of 2 billion US dollars and make available more than 3 billion US dollars for setting up the China South-South Climate Cooperation Fund to support other developing countries to address the climate change issues.”

He also talked about Bangladesh-China ties which are to mark 40th anniversary of the establishment of China-Bangladesh diplomatic relations.

“Over these 40 years, China and Bangladesh have always respected each other and supported each other’s endeavors to achieve stability, prosperity, and improvement of people’s livelihood. We are proud to see this relationship has brought tangible benefits to the peoples of the two countries. As the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina rightly said, China-Bangladesh relationship is time-tested.”

3 days ago, he said Chinese President Mr. Xi Jinping held a bilateral meeting with the honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in New York.

“They had a cordial exchange of views on a wide range of issues. I am confident the consensus from this meeting will further bring forward the friendly bilateral relations,” he mentioned.

“Bangladesh has a great dream of “Sonar Bangla”, we also have a “China Dream”. I sincerely hope that we will work together through win-win cooperation to have our dreams come true.”
