Cai Mingzhao appointed as president of Xinhua News Agency
BEIJING, Jan. 9 (NsNewsWire) — Cai Mingzhao, former director of the State Council Information Office, was appointed as president of Xinhua News Agency on Wednesday.
The appointment was announced by Pan Ligang, deputy head of the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, repots Xinhua.
At Xinhua’s headquarters in Beijing, Pan said Cai’s predecessor Li Congjun, 65, would no longer work as Xinhua’s president and Party chief for the reason of age.
Cai was also designated as the Party chief of Xinhua, according to Pan. Meanwhile, the newly-appointed Xinhua president ceased working as director of the State Council Information Office on Wednesday.
Cai, born in 1955, joined the CPC in 1974. As a veteran journalist, he worked with Xinhua for 23 years from 1978 to 2001.
In April 2001, Cai left Xinhua from the post of vice president and was appointed as deputy director of the State Council Information Office.
Since then, he had been director of China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, editor-in-chief of the People’s Daily, and deputy head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee over the past years.
Cai is a member of the 18th CPC Central Committee.
