BNP stages demonstrations, enforces strike after rally ban

DHAKA, Dec. 27 (NsNewsWire) –Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP)  will stage demonstrations (today) Saturday protesting restrictions on its rally in Gazipur on the out skirts of capital Dhaka.

BNP spokesman Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir announced the countrywide demonstrations at a press briefing after a meeting of the party on Friday night.

Apart from this, Fazlul Haque Milon, BNP’s Gazipur Unit chief, announced to enforce dawn-to-dusk strike in Gazipur in protest against the rally ban.

Gazipur’s local administration has imposed an indefinite ban on political rallies in the Gazipur district from Friday in the wake of growing tension over the ruling and the opposition parties’ announcement of holding rallies at the same venue on Saturday.

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s ruling Bangladesh Awami League party, postponed its rally following the BNP’s decision.
