Bangladesh’s Q1 remittance rises about 14 percent to nearly 4 bln USD
DHAKA, Oct. 4 (NsNewsWire) — Bangladeshis living and working abroad remitted home nearly 4 billion U.S. dollars in the first quarter of the current 2018-2019 fiscal year, a central bank official said on Wednesday, reports Xinhua.
Quoting provisional data, the Bangladesh Bank (BB) official told Xinhua that the flow of inward remittances in the first three months of the current fiscal year (July 2018-June 2019) surged about 14 percent to 3.86 billion dollars.
After 1.32 billion dollars in July and 1.41 billion dollars in August, the amount of remittance in the last month stood at 1.13 billion U.S. dollars, up about 32 percent than that of the same period a year earlier, said the official who preferred to be unnamed.
The inflow remittances, one of the key sources of foreign exchange for the impoverished nation, from nearly 10 million Bangladeshis in the last 2017-2018 fiscal year which concluded in June reached 14.98 billion U.S. dollars, 17.32 percent higher than the same period a year ago, the BB data showed.
Most of the remittances come from the Gulf countries, according to the bank. Enditem
