Bangladesh’s opposition alliance enforces 36-hour non-stop strike
DHAKA, Jan. 25 (NsNewsWire) — Ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s 20-party opposition alliance has enforced a 36-hour non-stop nationwide strike from (today) Sunday morning amid its ongoing blockade campaign that entered 20th day.
The alliance Saturday called the nationwide strike in protest against the government’s plan for electricity price hike.
Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in a press release on Saturday made the announcement of the hartal from 6:00 a.m. (local time) Sunday to 6:00 p.m. (local time) on Monday, also demanding release of its leaders.
BNP and its allies are observing a nonstop blockade across the country since Jan. 6 morning demanding fresh elections under a non-party caretaker government system.
