Bangladeshi president orders stern action against arson attackers
DHAKA, Jan. 30 (NsNewsWire) — Bangladeshi President Abdul Hamid on Thursday urged the country’s law enforcement agencies to take stern action against arson attackers during the opposition alliance’s blockade campaign.
“I’m deeply shocked along with the countrymen over the killing of innocent people by throwing petrol bombs and launching arson attacks on motor vehicles,” Hamid said, quoted by national news agency BSS.
“Those who are involved in it are enemy of democracy, humanity and civilization and I urge the law enforcement personnel to take strong legal steps against them,” he said while addressing a program organized as part of the ongoing Police Week 2015 at Bangabhaban (president palace) in Dhaka.
He called on the police “to remain active in giving people overall security and legal assistance from their respective position.”
Khaleda Zia’s BNP party and its allies have been observing the nonstop blockade across the country since Jan. 6, demanding fresh elections under a non-party caretaker government system.Xinhua
