Bangladesh signs 1.12 bln USD Padma river training deal with Sinohydro

DHAKA, Nov. 10 (NsNewsWire) — Bangladesh has signed a nearly 90 billion taka (over 1.12 billion U.S. dollars) deal with Chinese Sinohydro Corporation Limited for training works of the country’s 3 billion U.S. dollars Padma bridge project.

Shafiqul Islam, director of the Bangladesh’ Padma bridge project, and Lyu Liushan, a senior official of Sinohydro Corporation Limited, singed the deal on behalf of their respective sides on Monday night in capital Dhaka.

Bangladeshi government has already awarded China Major Bridge Engineering Company Limited a 1.55-billion-U.S. dollars contract to build core structure of the bridge project.

The proposed 25-meter-wide and 10-km-long bridge will be built over Padma River, one of the three major rivers in Bangladesh.

About 6.15 km of the bridge will be built over the river while the remaining part on both banks.
