Bangladesh scripts first test win against West Indies as Shakib fastest to 200 wickets, 3,000-run

DHAKA, Nov. 25 (NsNewsWire) — Bangladeshi star cricketer Shakib Al Hasan Saturday emerged as the country’s first cricketer to reach 200 wickets while his team scripted its first-ever Test cricket victory over West Indies on home soil, reports Xinhua.
Shakib also became the fastest to reach the dual milestone of 200 wickets and 3,000 runs, having completed the feat in his 54th appearance, one fewer than English former cricketer Ian Botham, the previous quickest to the landmark.
Bangladesh Test skipper Shakib bagged his 200th wicket in his 54th match against West Indies at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in the country’s southeastern seaport city Chattogram Saturday.
The left-arm spinner, who had come into this match with 196 scalps, moved to 199 after taking three wickets in the first innings.
Shakib removed Kieran Powell in the second innings for his 200th wicket during touring Caribbean’s chase of a 204-run target in the second innings against Bangladesh national cricket team, nicknamed The Tigers.
On the back of impressive performance also by Taijul Islam, who took six wickets in the second innings, Bangladesh, however, have beaten West Indies for the first time ever on home soil to go 1-0 up in the Test series after winning the first Test by 64 runs.
West Indies were set a target of 204 to win and eventually bowled out for 139 runs in the second innings.
The West Indies cricket team are currently touring Bangladesh in November and December 2018 to play two Tests, three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and three Twenty20 International (T20I) matches. It is the West Indies first full tour of Bangladesh since December 2012.
The second and final Test will be at played in capital Dhaka at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, starting Nov. 30.
All the matches of the ODI and T20I series will be held on the day-night basis.
The first two ODI matches will be held on Dec. 9 and 11 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka, while the 3rd one will be held on Dec. 14 at the northeastrrn Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
The T20I will also be held at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Dec. 17.
West Indies team will play the remaining two T20I matches on Dec. 20 and 22 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka before leaving Bangladesh on Dec. 23. Enditem
