Bangladesh president Mohammad Abdul Hamid visits India

New Delhi, Dec. 18, (NsNewsWire) — Bangladesh president Mohammad Abdul Hamid is all set  to visit India, a foreign ministry statement said on Wednesday, pointing towards increasing warmth in relations between the two neighbours.

Hamid’s 18-23 December visit will be the first visit by a ceremonial head of state of Bangladesh since 1972, the ministry said, adding he will be in India at the invitation of president Pranab Mukherjee, reports livemint.com

“The visit of the Bangladesh president will contribute to further strengthening and expanding the close bilateral relations between our two countries,” the statement said, adding that the visiting dignitary will meet Mukherjee, prime minister Narendra Modi and foreign minister Sushma Swaraj. The visit dovetails well with Modi’s neighbourhood foreign policy that saw him invite the heads of governments of all South Asian countries to his swearing-in ceremony on 26 May. Modi followed it up with quick visits to Bhutan and Nepal and despatched Swaraj to Dhaka on her first stand-alone visit in June.
