Bangladesh opposition calls 72-hour strike
DHAKA, Feb. 15 (NsNewsWire) — Bangladesh’s main opposition alliance has called another round of nationwide strike from Sunday morning.
The announcement of fresh strike came shortly after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina ruled any possibility of holding talks with opposition parties about a fresh election,reports Xinhua.
Demanding fresh election, the opposition alliance had observed a series countrywide strike.
Two-time ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Spokesman Barkat Ullah Bulu made the announcement of latest strike through a press release on Saturday.
BNP and its allies have been observing strike at regular intervals on top of its on going blockade campaign since January 6 demanding fresh election.
Bulu, a BNP joint secretary general, said the 72- hour strike will start at 6:00 a.m. local time Sunday and will continue till 6:00 a.m. local time Wednesday.
