Bangladesh launches SME development project
DHAKA, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) — The central bank of Bangladesh has launched a project for further development of small and medium enterprises (SME).
To meet skill gaps as well as to create new entrepreneurs, Bangladesh Bank (BB) Governor Atiur Rahman launched a project titled “Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP)”, assisted by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
Under the project, Rahman said they are currently working on training of about 10,200 people in three years for soft skills (Entrepreneurship Development), up-skill and employment generation skill training from five fields like IT, Garments, Light Engineering, Industrial Electrical Maintenance etc. through eight outsourcing of skill training providers.
About 40 percent of 10,200 trainees will be selected from women, people with disabilities, ethnic minority and indigenous people.
“I strongly believe such training will help effectively enhance the entrepreneurial capacity of the country,” he said while speaking at a program in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The SME sector has experienced a tremendous development in last five years, he said. Enditem
