Bangladesh inflation dips slightly in July

DHAKA, Aug. 8 (NsNewsWire) — The point-to-point inflation rate in Bangladesh dropped by 0.03 percentage point in the first month of the current fiscal year of 2018-19 (July 2018-June 2019).
Inflation dropped to 5.51 percent in July compared to that of 5.54 percent in the previous month, reports Xinhua quoting leading English newspaper The Financial Express Tuesday.
According to the BBS data, the point-to-point inflation in July 2017 was recorded higher at 5.57 percent.
Emerging from the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) meeting Tuesday in Dhaka, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, unveiled the data of the consumer price index (CPI) of the country.
The point-to-point inflation rate in the food items in July was recorded higher at 6.18 percent compared to 5.98 percent in June.
For the non-food items, the inflation rate dropped to 4.49 percent in July from 4.48 percent in June 2018.
The BBS data also showed that inflation rate was higher in the urban areas than in rural areas.
The inflation rate was 6.37 percent in July in urban areas while it was 5.04 percent in rural areas.  Enditem
