Bangladesh eyes record 8.13 pct growth: minister

DHAKA, March 20 (Xinhua) — The Bangladeshi government Tuesday said the country’s economic growth is all set to exceed 8 percent in the current 2018-19 fiscal year (July 2018-June 2019), the fastest since its independence in 1971.
After a meeting of the National Economic Council on Tuesday afternoon, Bangladeshi Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal told journalists that “per capita income in 2018-19 fiscal year will rise to 1,909 U.S. dollars from 1,751 U.S. dollars in 2017-18 fiscal year (July 2017-June 2018).
He said analysis of the data presented by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics for the first eight months (July to February) of the current fiscal 2018-19 showed record economic growth of 8.13 percent at the end of the fiscal year.
Riding on the agriculture sector especially a robust rise in rice production, Bangladesh’s economy grew 7.86 percent in the last 2017-18 fiscal year.
At the end of this fiscal year, according to the minister, however, the country’s investment-to-GDP ratio will be enhanced to 31.57 percent comprising 8.17 percent public and 23.40 percent private.   Enditem
