Bangladesh eyes 3 mln more solar home systems in 3 yrs

DHAKA, Nov. 5 (NsNewsWire) — Bangladesh Wednesday celebrated the installation of three million solar home systems in the country.
Speaking as a chief guest at the celebration ceremony, Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her government plans to install three million more solar home systems in the country in the next three years.
She said the plan comes as part of her government’s scheme to produce 24,000 megawatts electricity by 2021, with 10 percent from solar power.
Solar home systems in Bangladesh mostly meet the basic electricity needs of rural people, who would have otherwise been dependent on kerosene lamps for lighting.
