Bangladesh discusses electricity import from neighbors

The Bangladeshi government has been talking about importing electricity from its four neighbors to meet the growing local demand, reports Xinhua.
   Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday said talks are underway to import electricity from Bhutan, India, Myanmar and Nepal.
   Meanwhile, she said Bangladesh is importing 600 MW of power from India through trans-border grid connectivity.
   Apart from this, she expressed her government’s keenness for joint investments in hydroelectric plants in Nepal.
   In the wake of growing industrialization and urbanization, the Bangladesh government has set a target to increase electricity generation to 24,000MW by 2021 and to 40,000MW by 2030.
   Bangladesh’s installed power capacity is currently more than 20,000 MW.  Enditem
