Bangladesh Dengue fever patients triple in 8 months
DHAKA, Aug. 8 (NsNewsWire) — Bangladesh is in peak dengue season with 32,340 cases reported this year as of Wednesday, tripling the figure of last year,reports Xinhua.
According to the figures reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) under the Ministry of Health, a total of 2,428 cases of dengue including 1,153 in capital Dhaka were reported in the last 24 hours till Wednesday 8:00 a.m. (local time).
Against this backdrop, hospitals and clinics in Dhaka specially are now crammed with dengue patients.
On Aug. 1-7, according to the figure reported by the DGHS, 15,879 more dengue cases were recorded after 16,253 people were infected with the mosquito-borne disease last month.
The number of patients was 10,148 last year and 26 of them died.
The Bangladeshi government on Tuesday confirmed another five deaths from dengue fever, bringing the total number of fatalities in the country since January to 23.
The deaths includes two in April, three in June, 15 in July and three in August.
The country’s health authorities have already strengthened measures to check breeding of mosquitoes and conduct anti-larval operations. Enditem
