Bangladesh blocks more online voice, messaging services
DHAKA, Jan. 20 (NsNewsWire)– A day after Bangladesh authorities blocked Viber and Tango for “security reason,” they blocked Monday three more online voice and messaging services — WhatsApp, mypeople and Line — on the same ground.
Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission official who preferred to be unnamed confirmed the government decision to Xinhua.
He said relevant authorities asked them for steps as subversive activities, including bomb and arson attacks, were being carried out by miscreants during the opposition alliance’s enforced countrywide non-stop blockade since Jan. 6 morning using the services, reports Xinhua.
Bangladeshi ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has announced that her 20-party opposition alliance enforced countrywide blockade that entered the 14th day on Monday will continue until further announcement.
The fresh wave of violence has so far left 25 people dead and several hundred injured as anti-government protesters battled with law enforcers, allegedly attacked rivals, torched vehicles and targeted railway since Jan. 6 morning when Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led opposition alliance enforced nationwide non-stop rail-road-waterway blockade.
Khaleda Zia, also Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) chairperson, on Monday denied the involvement of her alliance in the violence.
