Bangladesh beat New Zealand to clinch series 2-0
DHAKA, Oct. 31 (nsnewswire) — New Zealand suffered a 40-run defeat at the hands of hosts Bangladesh in the 2nd One-day International or ODI of the three-match series in Dhaka Thursday.
Batting first, Bangladesh set a target of 247 runs in 49 overs losing all the 10 wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.
Earlier in the day Bangladeshi captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and decided to bat first.
Riding on the half century from opener Tamim Iqbal, Bangladesh set the fighting target in which debutant Shamsur Rahman, skipper Mushfiqur Rahim, Young Mominul Haque and Sohag Gazi contributed 25 runs, 31 runs, 31 runs and 26 runs respectively.
Chasing the target, the visitors (Black Caps) lost their wickets at regular intervals and were all-out for 207 runs in 46.4 overs.
New Zealand batsman LRPL Taylor scored highest 45 runs while Corey J Anderson made 37 runs.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Sohag Gazi took three wickets each while young Mominul Haque grabbed 2 wickets to drive New Zealand to the defeat.
Sohag Gazi judged Man of the Match.
Corey Anderson and James Neesham were the pick of the New Zealand bowlers as they grabbed four wickets each.
The hosts (Tigers) beat the visitors by 43 runs (D/L method) in the first match held in the same venue on Tuesday.
The final match of the series will be held at Fatullah Stadium in Dhaka’s Narayanganj on Nov. 3. New
Earlier, the two-match Test series between the Tigers and Black caps were drawn by 0-0.
The second and final Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand ended in a draw on Friday as play was abandoned on Day 5 due to persistent rain.
The New Zealand team arrived in Dhaka on Oct. 2 to play two tests, three One Day Internationals and a T20 match on Nov. 6.
