Afghan forces detain 11 Taliban fighters

KABUL, June 5 (Xinhua) — Eleven Taliban militants were captured after Afghan Special Operation Forces carried out raids in two provinces within the last 24 hours, said a military statement on Monday.

In one operation, 10 militants were arrested as the troops struck their hideout in Maywand District of southern Kandahar province, the command of Afghan Special Operation Forces said in the statement.

In addition, one Taliban member was captured in Sabari district of eastern Khost province, it added.

The arrest of the targeted militants would further improve the public security in the above provinces, the statement asserted.

Security situation has been improving in Kandahar and Khost over the past months, as security forces have conducted several search and cordon operations.

The Taliban has yet to make comments.
