900 Bangladesh opposition men sued over alleged attack on law enforcers
DHAKA, Feb. 1 (NsNewsWire) — Hundreds of Bangladesh’s opposition party men including its several frontline leaders have been sued over an alleged attack on law enforcers, reports Xinhua.
“800 to 900 BNP (Bangladesh Nationalist Party) men with several frontline leaders were sued in three cases filed on Tuesday night,” a DhakaMetroplotan Police (DMP) official told Xinhua on Wednesday .
The official who did not like to be named said BNP activists swooped on law enforcers and snatched away two of their fellows who were detained from a gathering of opposition men who took to the streets while ex-Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, chairperson of BNP, was going to appear before a court in a graft case.
DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told journalists that BNP activists also snatched two policemen’s firearms and dismantled them during the attack on Tuesday afternoon that left seven cops wounded.
Police late on Tuesday night arrested two BNP leaders, including its Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on charges of “plotting” the attack.
Senior BNP spokesman Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that the government has “crafted a blueprint” to remove Khaleda Zia from politics ahead of the 11th parliamentary polls slated for early 2019.
He said people will burst into agitations if such arrests continue. Enditem
