4th International Day of Yoga (IDY) in Dhaka, Bangladesh
DHAKA, June 21 (NsNewsWire) — The High Commission of India, Dhaka celebrated the 4th International Day of Yoga (IDY) on 21 June 2018 with around 10,000 people practicing the ancient Indian discipline at Bangabandhu stadium in Dhaka. H.E. Obaidul Qader, MP Minister for Road Transport and Bridges graced the event as the Chief Guest and H.E. Mr. Biren Sikder, MP, Hon’ble State Minister for Youth & Sports was the Guest of Honour. H. E. Mr. Arif Khan Joy M.P. , Deputy Minister of Youth & Sports was also present. High Commissioner Harsh Vardhan Shringla delivered the welcome remarks.
The celebrations of IDY commenced with the screening of a video message of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India. Hon’ble President of Bangladesh H.E. Md. Abdul Hamid sent a message on the occasion. Sports associations, Yoga associations and Institutes, students from various schools, intellectually challenged children, colleges and universities in Dhaka and outside Dhaka, Bangladesh Scouts participated in the celebrations of IDY. Several celebrities from culture, sports and media also participated in the event.
Smt. Mumpy Dey, Teacher of Indian Culture at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre (IGCC) conducted the Common Yoga Protocol. Demonstration of yoga asanas were also performed by yoga students of IGCC and other yoga institutes in Dhaka.
At the end of the event, a lucky draw was held. Winners received a Tata Tiago car, a Bajaj Motorcycle, a Holiday Package to a destination in India, a Trip to Delhi for a couple and a Hospitality package for a couple in a five star hotel in Dhaka. First prize-Tata Tiago car was won by Md. Khairul Hassan Khan.
