Court stays revenue board’s decision to freeze Robi’s accounts
DHAKA, Feb. 27 (NsNewsWire) — The following is the full and unedited text of a statement which Robi issued here on Tuesday: “Robi Axiata Limited (Robi or Company) wishes to confirm the company has successfully concluded outstanding administrative and process matters with the National Board of Revenue (NBR), and as a result, received a stay order from the courts to release its bank accounts today.
The Honourable High Court has since directed the courts to unfreeze all of Robi’s bank accounts.
The order issued on 26 February 2018 was due to an outstanding amount to the value of 18.72 crore taka in Value-Added-Tax (VAT) and Supplementary Duty (SD). The dispute had arisen as a result of a claim lodged by the Large Tax Payers Unit (LTU), which was still under discussion with the relevant authorities, and is now resolved.
Robi takes this opportunity to reaffirm that it has been a consistent and responsible operator and one of the largest corporate taxpayers since its inception in 1997. As the second largest mobile communications provider for Bangladesh, Robi has demonstrated the highest standards of governance and commitment to contribute to the development of the Bangladesh telecommunication industry. The company will continue to work closely with relevant authorities in an open and transparent manner to ensure strict adherence to regulations and laws governing business and industry in Bangladesh.”
