INDIA HANDS OVER INS VIKRANT MEMORABILIA
DHAKA, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) — The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Mr. Pankaj Saran handed over the memorabilia of Indian Naval aircraft carrier INS Vikrant to Chief of Naval Staff, Bangladesh Navy, Vice Admiral M Farid Habib on 17 August 2015.
A bridge window frame with a photograph of the ship and one set of Ceremonial Lifebuoy were handed over at a ceremony held at Naval Headquarters, Dhaka.
The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi had earlier handed over the Steering Wheel to the Hon’ble Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Her Excellency Sheikh Hasina during his visit to Dhaka on 06-07 June 2015.
Vikrant, means courageous or bold. It was India’s first aircraft carrier. The ship made its mark in India-Bangladesh history during the 1971 War of Liberation. It played a key role in the operations in Chittagong and Cox’s Bazar area.
